The Ultimate Mountain Getaway: Spring Creek Vacations

Every time I come home to Alberta, I try my hardest to squeeze in a trip to the Rocky Mountains. Sometimes that means leaving early in the morning for a beautiful hike and then a long (and snoozy!) drive back to Calgary. But when I’m lucky, it means a multi-night stay right in the heart of these giant, majestic beings.

This was one of those lucky trips home. Doug and I managed to sneak away for a two-night romantic getaway in Canmore at the absolutely beautiful Spring Creek Vacations. We fell in love with the property the moment we stepped inside. One of the premiere Canmore vacation rentals, Spring Creek offers units with 1, 2, or 3 bedrooms, and each suite has a unique floor plan. Guests can book at the Rundle Cliffs Lodge or White Spruce Lodge, which are both a few minutes walking distance from each other within the Spring Creek community.

We were set up in the One Bedroom King Suite on the top floor of the White Spruce Lodge, boasting stunning views of Spring Creek and the surrounding mountains. The suite was impeccably furnished, feeling both cozy and chic at the same time. The full sized kitchen had everything we needed to cook our own meals – gas stove and all! We loved spending time on the couch in front of the elegant stone fireplace, sipping our coffees in the morning, or relaxing in the evening with a cocktail. The dining room table overlooking the mountains doubled as our workspace (luckily we only needed to plug in briefly), and was a beautiful focal point in the suite. We also spent lots of time on our balcony, which offered incredible views of the mountains to both the left and right of us. My favourite room in the suite was the main bedroom – luxurious king sized bed, spacious closet, and a large spa inspired bathroom with a deep soak tub, shower, plus his and hers vanity. I would be lying if I said I didn’t spend most of the time inside our suite in a bath robe!

The process of checking into the White Spruce Lodge was seamless. With an access code that you’re given before you arrive, you gain entry to the heated underground parking garage, the main building (and all amenities, including a scenic outdoor hot tub) and your suite. No checking in at a front desk, or worries about losing your room key. There’s also a detailed PDF you can access through a QR code in your room that gives you all the info you need for your stay, as well as incredible recommendations on where to eat, what to do, and what to see while you’re in Canmore.

It was pouring rain when we arrived, so after dropping off our bags, we drove 5 minutes to the grocery store to stock up on food and snacks…for the following day. Our first night was take out – delectable gluten free pizza from Rocky Mountain Flatbread Co., and then back to our cozy suite to watch a movie on the flat screen TV that’s connected to all of the streaming services. Let the vacation begin!

Our first morning was one full of relaxing, including a 5 minute walk along the creek to get oat milk lattes at The Pulse General Store and Coffee Shop. Did I then have a 10am spa-like soak in the giant bath tub? You bet I did, because that’s what vacation is for! Afterwards Doug cooked us a delicious brunch in our fully stocked kitchen, and we continued the relaxing by alternating between the couch and balcony while reading.

Afternoon hit, and we finally ventured out into the world. We always hike when we’re in the mountains, but decided to take it easy this trip and actually explore the town of Canmore. One of the incredible things about Spring Creek Vacations is how close it is to the town centre. It’s only a 10 minute walk to get to the main street, and the scenery along the way is absolutely breathtaking. We ordered lunch at Communitea Cafe (to-die-for fresh vegan meals), and spent the rest of the afternoon wandering through the town and popping into all of the cute and unique stores peppered throughout the downtown area. After stopping at a sunny patio for an afternoon beverage, we headed back to our suite to relax before dinner.

Turns out we took the relaxing so seriously that we missed out on dinner plans – by the time we got to the Mexican restaurant we wanted to try at 8:30, we were told there wouldn’t be any more tables opening up in time for their 9pm close. Whoops! We walked down the main street and came across a great pub with a large patio, and ended up having a lovely (late) dinner there. Our walk home was illuminated by an almost full moon, positioned right beside one of the peaks of The Three Sisters mountains. We strolled casually in awe of the beauty surrounding us, and upon arrival home, poured a drink, turned on the fireplace and enjoyed our final evening together in this magical place.

The morning of our departure, we (you guessed it) did more relaxing! Doug went out to grab us coffees, we made a delicious breakfast, packed up, and hit the road. Checking out is as easy as calling the office to let you know that you’ve left. That’s it, that’s all! We were sad to leave, but so grateful for the incredible two days spent in our home away from home at Spring Creek Vacations.

Whether you’re looking for a romantic mountain getaway, the perfect location for a ladies trip, or a family holiday, Spring Creek Vacations has you covered. And the best part? If you fall in love with your stay, you can head right down to the sales office and  inquire about buying your own suite in the property. We’ve always wanted a home in the mountains, and now we know exactly where to find one. Thank you Spring Creek Vacations! #hosted
